July 05, 2011

EDMONTON – Edmonton East Member of Parliament Peter Goldring says this Saturday’s “Taste 118!” event on 118th Avenue is another example of the positive changes that have come with the revitalization of the area.

“Alberta Avenue (118 Ave) is once again becoming a choice destination for people from across Edmonton, through the hard work of determined entrepreneurs - many of them new Canadians,” Mr. Goldring says. “They have made Alberta Avenue a destination for those who enjoy good food.”

Saturday, July 9 the merchants and restaurants of 118 Avenue between 82 Street and 95 Street are hosting the first “TASTE 118! event.

The Avenue’s Restaurants will be showcasing their specialties with affordably-sized dishes and ethnic beverages. There will be more than 40 food options from around the world, including: Mexico, Portugal, East Africa, Ghana, Italy, the Middle East, China, Fiji, Latin America, the Caribbean, Poland and Vietnam  -  all located in just a few blocks.

“The City of Edmonton and the community are working together on a neighbourhood revitalization project to improve both the social and physical aspects of this area. Streets, businesses and green spaces are being improved, fostering a vibrant community life on the Avenue once more.”

A sampling of what is available can be found online in the “Taste of The Avenue” brochure at www.alberta-avenue.com.

In conjunction with “Taste 118!” Alberta Avenue businesses will be holding a “Sidewalk Sale PLUS” event to showcase a diverse variety of clothing, perfumes, jewellery, furniture and foodstuffs from around the world.
