Jack Layton wants to kill Alberta jobs

September 15, 2009
Ottawa - Jack Layton’s NDP policies against the oil sands development will kill tens of thousands of jobs in Alberta. Jack Layton repeatedly stated during the last election that the Fort McMurray oil sands project should be shut down.

Today Jack Layton told the Prime Minister not to promote oil sands oil in Washington because it was “dirty.”

Obviously oil from numerous repressive, brutal regimes in other parts of the world is, in his mind, “clean.”

Edmonton East Member of Parliament Peter Goldring notes that Alberta’s oil industry is important to the Canadian economy, especially as the country recovers from the recession. “Doesn’t Jack Layton know that if he were to shut down the oil sands he would single handedly be plunging the country back into recession, or maybe even depression?

“Albertans must know that tens of thousands of jobs are dependent on developing the vast oil sands of Fort McMurray. Thousands of those jobs are right here in Edmonton East. Those people would be unemployed if the NDP has their way.”
