Ukraine chief electoral offical visits with Peter Goldring

November 20, 2009
Ottawa – Peter Goldring, Member of Parliament for Edmonton East, and Vice-Chair of the Canada-Ukraine Parliamentary Friendship Group, met with Mr. Yaroslav Davydovych, former Chief Electoral Officer of Ukraine who oversaw voting at the failed November 2004 presidential election prior to the Orange Revolution.

Details of the discussion involved the upcoming presidential election in Ukraine in January and the geo-political realities of Ukraine and the Eastern European region today.

Mr. Davydovych visited Canada to speak about “Democracy in Ukraine: Possible or Impossible,” sponsored by the Canada-Ukraine Foundation. The Canada Ukraine Foundation is an official Observer Mission Agency recognized by the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Ukraine.

Peter Golding was the only Canadian Member of Parliament to react in Ukraine following the failed November 2004 run-off presidential election that sparked the Orange Revolution. He returned to Ukraine again for the December vote and now has served as an election monitor in Ukraine four times and Georgia twice.
